{"id":1888,"date":"2013-12-30T12:08:59","date_gmt":"2013-12-30T05:08:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.appota.com\/?p=1888"},"modified":"2013-12-30T12:12:01","modified_gmt":"2013-12-30T05:12:01","slug":"mobile-growth-pushes-facebook-to-become-no-2-us-digital-ad-seller","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.appota.com\/vi\/mobile-growth-pushes-facebook-to-become-no-2-us-digital-ad-seller\/","title":{"rendered":"Mobile Growth Pushes Facebook to Become No. 2 US Digital Ad Seller"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Mobile now accounts for more than 22% of all US digital ad spending, compared with less than 3% in 2010<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>US mobile ad spending is expected to near $9.6 billion in 2013 and account for a whopping 22.5% of all digital ad investments, according to new figures from eMarketer.<\/p>\n<p>The channel\u2019s incredible growth\u2014considering mobile represented just 11.9% of digital ad spending in 2012 and less than 3% of digital budgets in 2010\u2014comes largely as consumers shift time spent from desktop to mobile devices, which has caused a significant redistribution of revenues for some of the world\u2019s largest ad platforms.<\/p>\n<p>Facebook and Google are both major drivers and recipients of this growing market, domestically and internationally.<\/p>\n<p>Based on eMarketer\u2019s latest forecast of US ad spending, the rapid growth of mobile ad revenues at Facebook has helped make the social network the second-largest digital ad seller in the US, behind only Google. This year, Facebook will take in 7.4% of net US digital ad dollars, or $3.17 billion, while Google will account for nearly four in 10, or $17.00 billion.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.emarketer.com\/images\/chart_gifs\/166001-167000\/166311.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>eMarketer had previously forecast Facebook would remain slightly behind Yahoo! this year. But the strength of Facebook\u2019s mobile business has pushed the social network past Yahoo!, whose share is now expected to decline to 5.8% in 2013, from 6.8% last year.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft\u2019s share of US digital ad revenues will fall from 6.2% last year to 5.9% this year. Microsoft\u2019s $2.53 billion in ad revenues, which include advertising not only from the company\u2019s web properties, but also from Xbox and Skype services, will grow to $2.87 billion by 2015, though not fast enough to hold or increase market share. Twitter will take in a comparatively small $420 million in US ad revenues this year, eMarketer estimates\u2014about a 1% share.<\/p>\n<p>On a worldwide basis, Google and Facebook are also the top two ad publishers, with 31.91% and 5.64% of the market this year, respectively.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.emarketer.com\/images\/chart_gifs\/166001-167000\/166395.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>eMarketer has updated our forecast for digital ad revenues at major ad selling companies based on several factors, including Twitter\u2019s public filing of its S1, which revealed solid performance in the first three quarters of the year with significant mobile revenues; new data about YouTube and its contribution to Google\u2019s revenues; and Facebook\u2019s continued stellar mobile performance, with the potential to open up new inventory via Instagram as well as the announcement to include video ads in the newsfeed.<\/p>\n<p>Just like on the desktop, Google and Facebook grabbed the greatest shares of net US mobile ad revenues, with Facebook jumping from 9.0% to 16.0% between 2012 and 2013.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.emarketer.com\/images\/chart_gifs\/166001-167000\/166380.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Globally, Google dominates the mobile ad landscape, with a 48.76% market share, eMarketer estimates. Facebook has seen its share of global mobile revenues explode this past year, growing from 5.34% in 2012 to 16.91% in 2013.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.emarketer.com\/images\/chart_gifs\/166001-167000\/166399.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Mobile internet ad spending worldwide will grow 105.9% to top $18.15 billion in 2013, eMarketer estimates, up from around $8.82 billion last year.
